Heinlein Bed

Long before the Waterbed came onto the market in the late 1960s, there were several mentions of water matresses. Early water matress designs were aimed at fulfilling medicinal purposes: increasing comfort of patients and reducing complications resulting from long term bed rest.
In three of his science fiction works, Robert A. Heinlein, himself having spent quite some time in hospitals, describes the water matress as the ideal hospital bed in his future worlds. A bed where one would float and barely feel one’s own weight – an object fitting for a science fiction setting.
Building on Heinleins vision, we aim to further explore the regenerative properties of the experience of “floating on water” through means of sound and music. In air, frequencies below 60Hz can be increasingly felt through the body. Through direct contact with the sounding water mattress the range extends to above 150Hz.
Listeners are invited to take some time out on the cool matress and possibly take a short regenerative nap to the waterbed sound atmospheres.
